Writing in the Catalonia edition of El País, Xavier Theros traced the Catalan presence in the neighbourhood and cited the documentary as the work that had recorded it.
Theros notes that by the end of the nineteenth century Galicians and Asturians had become the majority population of the district. In 1881 the Catalan paper La Llumanera ceased publication, and shortly afterwards El Despertar appeared — an anarchist publication edited by the Barcelona-born Pere Esteve. The new businesses of the neighbourhood were the Mesón Flamenco, the Café Madrid and the shop La Iberia.
